Title*:* *Kafka Admin Engineer*
Location: *Seattle, WA*
Duration: *12 Month*
*Kafka Administrator/Messaging Systems*
This role will be responsible for the setup, configuration, maintenance and
operational monitoring of Expeditors Kafka messaging infrastructure.
It will also include similar work for our existing JMS based messaging
system as well as AS2/FTP and other systems.
Responsibilities include deployment of applications, collaborating with
multiple teams, researching, developing and implementing new technologies.
This includes the development of scripts and installation procedures, and
providing support for the production runtime environment through issue
tracking and problem resolution.
This role works closely with multiple teams to ensure final version of a
product meets organizational standards and facilitates a successful and
efficient deployment of software releases or supporting systems. You should
be self-motivated, able to work independently and passionate about
technology.
*Position Specific Notes:*
Expeditors is a true 24/7/365 company and has a global IS organization to
support that, however after hours on call duties for escalated matters will
be an expectation of this position.
The employee will be compensated if called off hours.
The official job title of this position will be determined based on
experience but will be either Configuration Engineer or Administrator
II/III.
*Required Experience*
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Takes ownership of and initiative in solving problems
- 2+ years supporting business critical production systems
- 1 -2 years’ experience supporting an Asynchronous Messaging system
such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, Active MQ or Websphere MQ. That experience must
include:
- Application setup & configuration
- Troubleshooting
- Monitoring & maintenance
- Upgrades
- 1 – 2 years’ experience in scripting (BASH, Perl
- Demonstrated understanding of network concepts and basic diagnostic
tools
*Preferred Experience*
- Experience working with Kafka brokers.
- Experience administration a JMS or AMQP messaging system.
- Experience with systems utilizing AS2, RosettaNet, S/FTP and other
file exchange protocols
- Expert level experience in Linux
- Experience woking with SQL or NoSQL databases and data analytics
- Solid experience with administering/maintaining Windows systems.
- General knowledge with automation technologies such as Chef
- Experience in Java Performance analysis or engineering
*Education:* 4 year college degree, preferably in a technical field
