The candidate must have a 'systems' DBA background, as opposed to an 'application' DBA background. They must be a very seasoned Oracle DBA with strong leadership abilities. Candidates having the following hands on experience will be favored. Implementing and support SAP specific databases Experience using the SAP tools brconnect and brtools Experience with RMAN * Description Determines appropriate RDBMS technologies to be used to enable application teams to implement IT solutions to support the business community. Provides leadership to the DBA team to determine optimal standards for installation, configuration and maintenance of RDBMS technologies. Mentors DBA team members on all aspects of Database products and services provided to application customers. Establishes and maintains development, test and production database environments and provides technical support to application teams. Below reprensents the typical type of work and frequency for a Smurfit Systems DBA. Perform multiple database software installs/upgrades each year Perform multiple database refreshes per month Perform 5 or more proactive space allocations per quarter Perform 2-3 hot standby builds per quarter Troubleshoot 3-5 failed database processes (backups, stats, log transfers) per week Perform 2-3 database restores using Oracle RMAN per quarter Perform performance tuning/troubleshooting 2-3 times per quarter Create 6 or more new databases per year - this also includes setting up backups, stats and in some cases archive log shipping to hot standbys Assist application teams with SQL tuning 6 or more times per year - this includes using explain plans, SQL trace and tkprof.
