Subject: Re: to y'all [Yahoo! Clubs: Metric America]

All this division stuff is a remnant from the Middle Ages. It was not even
always used in the pre-metric ages. The Amsterdam foot was 11 inches. What
about dividing this one? Metric still allows for division by 2 and 4, and
this is enough for most purposes. We do not need it much today. Ifp is NOT
more practical than metric. Why don't we adopt it, if it is so superior? If
the metric system was really that inefficient as you claim, and I dispute
that, we should abandon it and adopt ifp.

Ifp is NOT a standard system. The standards in the US are the metric ones,
from which your wonderful and superior ifp units are derived. NIST simply
calls the US form of ifp United States Customary Units.

The only area where decimal is impractiocal is the time units, therefore we
use the old divisions there. But in metric countries we do not need the
'more practical'ifp. Whatever fp we use, has been imposed on us by Britain
and the US in the past. And I want it it OUT!

Ton, hundredweight, quarter, pound, combined with Lsd, making up invoices
with this trash. How superior to work with. How marvelously efficient and
superior to making up invoices with metric tons and decimal currency. My
father had to learn this British trash before World War 2 and he had his own
ideas about how 'wonderful' ifp is.
