I can only justify this posting by the fact that Canada's metrication
program started when Trudeau had been Prime Minister of Canada for less
than two years.

This morning's Globe and Mail carried a column by Allan Fotheringham who wrote:

"My favourite Trudeau story--true, because my close friend Jean Chrtien
told it to me--involves a plane ride.
"The young and nervous Indian Affairs minister, son of a millworker, was
to fly to a constituency rally with the new prime minister, the product of
Westmount, Harvard, LSE, and the Sorbonne. On the small government jet, Mr.
Chrtien took the window seat.
"Mr. Trudeau, in the aisle seat, immediately opened his briefing papers
on his lap and said nothing.
"After 30 minutes of silence Mr. Chrtien announced, 'It's raining outside.'
"Mr. Trudeau, not raising his eyes from his papers, replied, "If it's
raining, it must be outside.'
"The remaining 30 minutes of the flight passed in silence."
