As I've said before, the 'elderly' are often used by opponents of
metrication as convenient excuses for their views. Another example of
how this is an abuse was shown to me yesterday, when my partner
reported passing two old ladies in the street, with one saying to the
other "I would say it was about 50 metres..." Unfortunately, she
didn't hear the context of the remark.
