ASTM is forming a New Subcommittee on Gaseous Fuels. See Tech
News in ASTM Standardization News, 2000 September, p.12:
"Subcommittee D03.12 for On-Line, At-Line and Continuous Analysis of
Gaseous Fuels is seeking additional participants with field experience, as
well as the submission of relevant specifications, practices, guides, and
methods.
Contact Daniel Industries of Houston, TX for technical
information by email <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
My thought is to recommend exclusive use of SI units to the new
Subcommittee; in particular, use of energy divided by mass (rather than by
volume) for the major and minor components of Natural Gas; e.g. 54.9 MJ/kg
for Methane, 49.9 MJ/kg for Propane, ??.? for Ethane (What is that value?), etc.
Pressure, and temperature would then be secondary variables.
Do you agree with this proposed recommendation?
Gene.
