I finally found some information on the meeting that was arranged for last week in Sunderland. According to a local TSO, it got only local press and TV coverage (though I can still find nothing on the Sunderland Echo Web site). The organisers claimed a turnout of 200, but from the TV pictures it looked considerably fewer. The impression was that many attendees had come from other parts of the country, wanting to debate the pound/euro issue rather than the pound/kg issue! Mr Herron also seemed to be using it as a platform for his own political ambitions. Which mirrors the other news... Mr Stephens, of Mandy's Chop Shop (remember him?), has sold his butcher's business to another butcher. According to the local paper http://www.thisisessex.co.uk he stood as a UKIP candidate in the local elections in May, and he seems to have his own political aspirations. Whether the other butcher shares his feelings on metrication was not made clear. -- Chris KEENAN UK Metrication: http://www.metric.org.uk/ UK Correspondent, US Metric Association
