Today I attended a short seminar presented by a research scientist working for the
Institute of Plant Science, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology on the topic of the
nutritional enhancement of foods from plants through genetic engineering (i.e. 'Golden
Rice').

On on her slides, when ever a number greater than 9999 was given the apostrophe
thousands space separator was used.

eg. 15'000 Retinol Equivalents of Vitamin A

This is the first time that I have seen this used outside of the List.

btw... it was a very good lecture discussing the biotech techniques of this breeding
effort and the humanitarian use of biotechnology to improve the health of third world
people. Once the beta-carotene rich rice passes the necessary field trials and
licencing regulations it will be distributed free to Third World farmers who grow
their own not-for-profit food (<US$10'000 per capita income).
