My Microsoft Word User's Guide says that the Windows character set has
superscript 2 as the Times character 178 and superscript 3 as the Times
character 179. The symbol character set has double-quotes and
greater-than-or-equal-to for characters 178 and 179. The Windows symbol
character for less-than-or-equal-to is 163. The Macintosh charater set has
character 178 as the Times character for less-than-or-equal-to and
double-quotes as the symbol character. Character 179 is
greater-than-or-equal-to in both Times and symbol sets.
There is clearly a job for ISO in standardizing character sets.
