And for 30 years I have again and again run into folks who scramble for some word and then finally scream, "Communist," as they try to explain some reason to be anti-metric. On the floor of the Fla. House in 1979, one member commented in debate, "If Representative Johnson succeeds today in getting his metric council, then he will come back next year to try to make everyone speak Russian." (He died soon after. So I only heard his damn fool speech once.)
