Typically most Canadians have a high efficiency natural gas furnace and 20 cm thick walls. We only pay about 50 $ per month for heating in the winter with our novel heating system... but we usually can only keep the house at +18� during the night and +20�C during the day... if its sunny and the wind is low. The forecast for next week is a mere -20�C for a high and -30�C for a low. Currrenly we are paying 0.182 $/m� (Cdn) but this just went up as of 2000-12-01 and we haven't received our latest bill yet. It should be around 0.23 $/m�. Fortunately SaskEnergy prices per stanard cubic metre consumption even if the meter measures cubic feet before pressure/energy factors are applied. Our November bill was about $42 Cdn (150 m� at 0.182 $/m� + taxes and basic delivery charge) This includes our hot water, clothes drier, and range/oven use as they are all natural gas fuelled as well. Our night time temperatures for the past few days have been near -20�C and daytime at -10�C. My USMA thermometer hanging on the window outside is showing -12�C at 12:45 h. It isn't to bad if when the wind is blowing and you wear two layers of thermal underwear. I refuse to listen to the official broadcasts as they would confuse me with their nonsense. when out-of-towners ask me how cold it is, I give the the Celsius reading that I know. They never question it, maybe just a WOW!! Maybe they think I am telling them wind-chill. They only problem is the price of natural has doubled since last year, and it is expected to triple. It went from 0.15 $/m� now to 0.30 $/m�. The November gas bill is 10 times higher then July/August. And November wasn't as cold as December is now. The furnace starts every 10 min and runs for about 5 min. Soon, we will have to live like Europeans, only heat half the house and keep the setting at 18�C. I keep the setting at 21�C now.
