Dear Revy,

I recently bought my first house and I am in the process of renovating
one part at a time.

I have only two real choices in Saskatoon for home improvement centres
as far as price is concerned: Revy and Home Depot.

Like you I am also "proudly Canadian" and would prefer to shop at a
Canadian store. However I see no difference between yourselves and the
American competition as far as your products and customer service are
concerned.

I am 30 years old and I have learned nothing but the metric system in my
years of public school in Canada. I am much more comfortable with mm,
cm, m, m, L, kg, watts, joules, pascals, and Celsius. I become quickly
lost with inches, feet, gallons, pounds,F, "btu's", "cfm's", and
"psi's". Fractions of an inch are merely confusing from the start.

I am aware that the home building industry in Canada is still deeply
entrenched in the Imperial system. However, am I not the industry. I am
a homeowner, like millions of other young Canadians, who happens to be
much more comfortable with metric. It would be greatly appreciated to
see metric units on all your store tags. I would make it much easier for
me to buy your products and use your products in my home. I would much
rather be buying 40 x 90 x 2350's and spacing them every 405 mm than
2x4-studs's at 16 inches to build a wall.

I appreciate the attempt to include dual unit 1 metre paper tape
measures in your store. It does help with my shopping but it is no
substitute for the convenience of having a metric label on the shelf.

By adding metric sizes to your dimensional lumber and other store
products I would be able to see the difference between you and the
American competition. Having metric-only measuring tools, such as
retractable tape measures, metre sticks, squares, and tees would also be
appreciated. With the addition of metric to your store I would become as
loyal to your store as I am to using the metric system and being
Canadian, regardless of the few cents I would save going down the road
to the competition.

Until then, I will just go where the price is less; which is usually
Home Depot.

Sincerely,

Gregory Peterson
