I sincerely apologize that I reminder all of you again and again to please tune in to my radio show today, but then, when many of you tried to do exactly as I asked, you found that the station, for the day, was not streaming on the net at all, without even bothering to tell me about it. My radio show is a mixture of local and state and national politics, weekdays, each weekday, 9--noon, on AM1320 WJGR in Jacksonville. Also the show, most days, can be heard on the internet at http://www.wjgr.com although apparently not today. I am exceedingly unhappy with the radio station. I am not an employee. I buy my time. I am in independent contractor. I host the show, produce the show, sell the ads. I am more or less a radio station in a radio station. And...I pay extra for the simulcast on the internet. And...the station apparently was not intending to let me know that I was due a refund for today's show.... The show was a surprising success. Although I did not receive even one call from out of town, from the u.s.m.a. folks or from the metricAmerica folks, which I can now rather easily understand, the show stayed busy the entire 3 hours with local calls, including more pro-metric than anti-metric. I confess that I had expected at least a few metric experts to carry the day for me. I was not intending to work quite as hard as I did today. We will try it again soon. I will make sure the station definitely has me hooked up to the internet, without any doubt about it. And I will then again solicit the usma to participate. I have been doing my thing for metric since back in 1978 when I was elected to the Florida House. Way back then I successfully sponsored and passed a bill creating and funding the Florida Metric Council, working closely with Syd Andrews and Doyle Connor. And I also passed a bill which required dual speed limit signs! Back in 1981! For 2 years the speed limit signs in Florida were put up as dual signs! And then that damned Governor Martinez came along, not satisfied to halt the dual signs, but demanding that all which had been erected had to be removed and destroyed! I no longer harbor any political ambitions. But I harbor some serious ambitions about turning my little local radio show into a national talk show. I solicit your help. I ask you for your help. And I will continue to work with you in every way possible to speed up metrication. I believe our goal must be to muster some national commitment in 2001 that we will now move toward full and complete metrication in the U.S. by some definite date. Sincerely, Andy Johnson http://www.wjgr.com each weekday, 9--noon, east coast on-air: 904-389-1320 office: 904-596-7335 fax: 904-389-3399 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
