I do not know whether a BWMA claim is still on their website. In 1998 or
1999 I read on their site that French railway engineers use the non-metric
size for the railway gauge, viz. 4" 8-!/2", instead of 1435 mm. I assume
that this is one of the BWMA's methods of disinformation.
Last year, however, I saw a program on Discovery Channel about high speed
trains. The program was in metric, but a French railway engineer thought
that he had to make a good impression on English speaking people by using
mph for speeds.
I know two other Frenchmen who do such things:  the deep see explorers the
Cousteau's. Their English language films are all in inch, foot, pound, yard,
etc. etc. The Inch Perfect Award for such people!
Disgusting!
