These are the entries in the gustbook of http://www.ukmetrication.co.uk
Chris was the first to sign it, my entry is the latest, an answer to the
ravings of a lunatic. There are two entries from a British Warts and Measles
Association member too. Go to that site and leave your mark! It deserves to be
supported,

Comments A very good site, indeed. A good way to counteract all those
antimetric ones like the three sites of the BWMA, Inch Perfect,
'freedom'2measure etc. 0845, your comments show to me that you have never been
in a metric country and that you do not understand metric at all. All those
things about division by 12 have very long beards. Go to http://www.nist.gov
and surf their sections on measuring units. There you will find out how the
thing which you are defending needs the International System to survive
(especially look for Mendenhall Order 1893). Without metric your inch-pound
rockets would explode on the pad or would hit a US city instead of an enemy
one! Metric is also used widely by US industries in areas which are shielded
from the public.

Comments Your site is nothing but metric propaganda. Your reasons for metric
conversion are stupid and dimwitted-everybody else uses it. If metric were a
big improvement then the U.S would have adopted it long ago. It isn't
convenient in day-to-day life. You can't even break a meter into thirds! But
the foot of 12 inches is conveniently divisible by 6,4,3, and 2...Numbers that
real people actually use. Meters are too big, centimeters are too small. If
anyone can see through this spurious propaganda and wants the truth then visit
www.footrule.org By the way, the U.S Army's new missile defense uses FEET and
INCHES, we'll nuke all these communists and their EVIL metric ways

Comments Oh, and I forgot to mention - all of the metric roadsigns mentioned
in this site (500metres to roadworks, 0.5km to tourist information etc) are, of
course, as illegal as Steven Thoburn using "unlicensed scales" to sell a pound
of bananas. The only legally-recognised units for height, width and distance on
road-signs (including pedestrian signs) in the UK are miles, yards, feet and
inches, and councils and other bodies who have sited metric signs are obliged
to replace them with imperial ones. As indeed they do, I find, when you write
to them pointing out the facts.

Comments Er...all very worthy, I'm sure, if you like that sort of thing; but
actually, when you ask them (and I've commissioned a couple of national opinion
polls on this), around 75% of the British public say that given the choice they
prefer to use feet and inches, pints and pounds for most everyday purposes.
They don't object to the sort of people who ask for 500 grammes of apples in
shops, but mostly they'd rather not be forced to do it themselves. And why
should they be forced to change if they don't want to? It's a matter of
democracy, really.
