I heard a fellow with the USGS claim on TV that the quake was "centered 50 kilometers
beneath the surface and that the quakes felt in California are usually only within 5
to 15 kilometers below the surface" Not once was there an attempt to use miles, yards,
or feet.

I have no idea if this was being done for the Canadian media, but I suspect not. He
was just too comfortable with the words and it appeared that them use them quite
frequently in their work.

It nearly brought a tear to my eye and I thought that _all_ Americans should be this
comfortble with SI.

Quake felt as far south as Portland OR, and into Vancouver and Kelowna BC.
The US Geological Survey has been using SI quite frequently.
