Toronto Globe & Mail Mar 16, Pg. C6:

"Muskeg Lake ... development".

This article makes reference to "35 acres" and to "20 acres". Although this
may sound reasonable enough, just how does one go about measuring off 35
acres? Since it is area, it would tempt one to think of a region (say) 5
somethings by 7 somethings. BUT, what's a something?

On the other hand, 14 hectares could be though of as being 7 tenths of a
kilometre by 2 tenths of a kilometre.

Acres have (for some) a warm and fuzzy sound. The reality is that they
constitute a totally bizarre way to quantify area.

Why does the Globe & Mail continue to indulge in such obfuscation?
