The Safeway outlets in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, have started using a coin dispenser at
its stores. Rather than having the clerk count out coins a machine automatically makes
the correct change that the customers collects with their groceries at the end of the
check-out lane. The clerk still counts out notes for change, however.

This could be the reason why Safeway is promoting the 1$ golden dollar in the US.
