This is true. Nobody refers to horsepower of cars any more. The trade press
have referred to the power of cars in kilowatts for over twenty years, and
this has produced the change in the motorist's language.

About the only place I hear talk about horsepower these days is when the
speaker is referring to air conditioners.

I recently had an air conditioner installed for my mother-in-law as it was a
long hot summer here with temperatures up to 43 °C.

The advertising referred to kilowatts; the box had kilowatts written on the
side;  the compliance plate said kW; but the sales person and the installing
technician kept wanting to talk to me using horsepower. They didn't get very
far!
