Well, not so easy...
Firstly, they are the largest contributor to the BIPM budget. Kicking
them out out would certainly create a financial problem !
More seriously, nothing in the "Convention du Mètre" compels its
members to use the Metric System : the Convention is just about the
making and conservation of prototypes. The term "metric system" is
not even existing in the Convention !
Only in article 7 of the attached "Reglement" can we find that "[the
GCPM] has the mission of discussing and implementing the actions
necessary to the development and improvement of the Metric System..."
Is that sufficient ?
