Although both the NCWM and the TABD have made public
declarations in favor of amending the FPLA to *permit* metric-only
labeling, neither group seems to have the political will or the clout
to lobby Congress to make the amendment a reality.
When I ask the OWM of NIST for information on progress, I am
referred to the NIST Metric Program. The NIST-MP has no new information
to disclose. I would like to believe that progress is being made
behind the scenes, but fear that that is wishful thinking.
Where should we focus our campaign to have the amendment in place
before 2009?
