The kelvin is used in thermodynamics. According to Stefan, the radiation
of any surface varies as the fourth power of its kelvin temperature.
Rankine is the Fahrenheit equivalent of kelvin; i.e. 0 K = 0°R and 5 kelvin
degrees = 9 Rankine degrees. It may still be used by reactioinary
engineers. Réaumur, I believe, was still used in Denmark a hundred years
ago. On Réaumur water freezes at 0° R and boils at 80°!R.
