Have just seen part of Don't Try This At Home. A chasm was twice mentioned
as 40 metres deep. This is unusual in the past feet have been used to
emphasis the depth because it is a bigger number.

These are the kind of populist programmes we need to target. They routinely
use measurement as a significant and relevant part of the programme, and it
goes out at peak time to a wide audience. If that is routinely metric, then
a major propoganda victory will have been won.

Best,

Andy

Folks,

I wanted to press the case for metric roadsigns with my MP. I was
deliberately less controversial than I would like to be given that he is a
Conservative and does not completely agree with my view on metrication.
Nevertheless, as an excellent constituency MP, he wrote to Lord Whitty on my
behalf.

I really felt that the footpath issue would be a "no brainer" especially as
I am a keen hiker and used to be a keen mountaineer. Please review the
letter I wrote and the reaction. We definitely need to deal with the
legitimate safety issue. I do not agree with Lord Whitty's reponse but agree
that erring on the side of safety is correct. To get to the next stage will
require good arguments and maybe reseach. Please feel free to argue the case
with your MPs!

If you have not already signed up, bear in mind that the MSN site is a
better forum for debate than the "list.to" list which has sometimes
antagonised occasional contributors.
