The ones you are probably talking about are the metric machine fasteners (bolt&nut).

The wood and metal screws come only in ifp in US and I beleive in Cda too. So you get
only something like 1/4 x 2.

The novelty was that someone actually was selling wood screws to metric sizes: ex:
4x40.

What I really think happened is that GRK may have bought some machines or a hole
production line from Germany/Switzerland.

These machines are usually automated machines which start from steel wire or bars and
"spit" out the screws at an incredible speed. All you do after that is to dip them in
a chroming or galvanizing bath and sell them.

It might be that these machines have standard DIN/ISO sizes but, like I said, the tech
guy did not seem to know much about this subject.

I will receive a catalog soon an I also have the NJ rep's number and I will try to
find-out more.

Our local Lowe's and Home Depot sell metric screws. What is special
about these apart from the alleged German/Swiss connection and the
unusual cross-slot on the countersunk screws?
