You may recall that I've been trying to convince SGI (Sask. Gov. Insurance) to allow
for metre (or cm) height on Saskatchewan Driver's Licences.

A few weeks ago I called and asked that my height be corrected from 5'08" to 1.73 m...
to let you skip the math 5-feet 8-inches is 1.73 metres.

Reply 1) a new licence arrived with 6'05" i.e. 2.25 cm = 1 inch
Reply 2) a new licence arrived with 6'02" i.e. 2.33 cm = 1 inch
Reply 3) a new licence arrived with 6'02"
Reply 4) a new licence arrived with 5'06" i.e. 2.6 cm = 1 inch

The last reply (#4) was the most interesting one. If you divide 1.73 m by 0.3048 you
get the answer of 5.675-feet. It appears that the last conversion that was attempted
assumed that a 0.1-foot is the same as 1 inch.

It genuinely surprises me that they cannot find the conversion factor of 2.54 cm (or
even 2.5 cm) = 1 inch, or 30.48 cm (or even 30 cm) = 1 foot. It is clear that SGI
doesn't have a single cm/inch ruler in the building.

This weekend I'm composing a letter to the local paper and Sask. Gov. Insurance
pointing out the reason why they should allow both... expecially since both the
Saskatoon Police and the national RCMP both use metric as their primary measurement
system and Saskatchewan and Manitoba are the only two administrations out of 13 that
still use feet and inches only (only 1 province allows for both — Alberta.)
