An item in the Independent: http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/legal/story.jsp?story=69287 It's ironic that the Independent (who have not given the story much coverage before) seem to be the only paper to say much today. I could see nothing in the Telegraph, Sun or Mail (thought the Telegraph were obviously given prior notice for an article yesterday). the Times has the following (complete article): "SATURDAY APRIL 28 2001 Metric appeal Steve Thoburn, 37, the metric martyr, confirmed yesterday that he will appeal against his Sunderland conviction for selling fruit and vegetables by imperial measure. He said he owed it to thousands who had urged him to carry on his fight against Brussels domination." This rather makes a nonsense of his claims elsewhere that he's not doing it to be political. -- Chris KEENAN UK Metrication Association: http://www.metric.org.uk/ UK Correspondent, US Metric Association
