Anti-Metric Battle Boards
Welcome to the BWMA "battle boards", set up to centralise information and
promote discussion on various topics. Please click on the topic most closely
resembling your interest. If in doubt, use the first board, "Metric v
Imperial - the Great Debate".
Although visitors are invited to leave their name and email, this is not
compulsory; entries may be given anonymously, if desired.
Metric versus Imperial - the Great Debate Here, we record the latest
campaign information on any topic not covered below. If you have any
information that you believe may be of interest to BWMA and other visitors,
feel free to share it.
Metric Transport Signs
Join the campaign against metric traffic signs. Read about other activists'
successes - and frustrations - and record your own. Although this board is
intended mainly for action against signs, reports on other transport issues
are also welcome.
Consumer Affairs This section is to keep an eye on metric in the retail
market place: supermarkets, department stores, other shops. Please report
cases of product downsizing, examples of ludicrous or inaccurate metric
labelling, and examples of where imperial is making a comeback.
Overseas
In Britain, we are often unaware of the state-of-play regarding metric
conversion overseas. International visitors to this site are therefore
invited to update us on metric developments in their own countries,
particularly with regards to examples of where metric is not used, and where
there have been reversals from metric to English/imperial units.
Trading Standards Alert The 1985 Weights and Measures Act states that
retailers are free to use lb/oz as well as kilos, and yards as well as
metres. Yet, trading standards officers routinely tell retailers otherwise.
If you hear of any actions or threats against traders for using traditional
units, please leave a posting on this board. Give as much information
(trader, dates, town, etc) as possible, as well as where you heard it (eg
local newspaper, personal communication, etc).
Business Issues
Run a business and find that metric is costing you time and money? Please
record your experiences on how metric disrupts your operation. If you do not
want to name your company, just leave details of what you produce and the
nearest large town.
