To all,
I did not get a virus e-mail! And this morning I had my virus definitions
updated. Bill, thanks for the warning anyway,
Han

Don't open any attachment with the name Sorry_About_Yesterday.doc.pif.
You might not see the .pif extension and think it's just a doc file. If
you've previously added virus-proofing to Microsoft Word, you might think
you can safely open it. You cannot.
Files with a .pif extension are a holdover from Windows 3.1. They are
executable -- even in the current versions of Windows. If you want the
details of this one, go to
http://vil.nai.com/vil/virusSummary.asp?virus_k=99069. It describes the
characteristics, the symptoms and how to remove it.
As I was dumb enough to open it (not having seen the .pif extension), it may
have remailed itself to some of you. (By the time I caught it sending out
messages, it had already sent out over 160. More than 400 were still waiting
in my Outlook Outbox folder.)
Why does someone with over 40 years experience in the computer field do a
foolish thing like opening a virus-infected file (when he's supposed to know
all the tell-tale signs)? I guess I'll have to put it down to a "senior
moment." <g> (Or a brain fart.)
I repeat. Don't open it!
More details on request.
