I have done informal, oral tests via questioning during discussion
periods. The results are obvious, even to the students. I have toyed
with the idea of giving a written quiz, but I must budget lecture and
even "homework" time. I now use something called WebCT, which includes
the ability to give online quizzes, which the students take at their
leisure outside of class. That has caused me to think anew of giving
this as a "not for grades" quiz.

Nat posted the link here in USMA:13067.

By the way, by using "reply to all", John, your comments went to the
author of the piece as well as to this mail list.
