Wheel diameters are non-SI (or, at least, only soft SI) worldwide. Tire
widths are SI and tire depths are implicit (e.g., 205/60, meaning 205 mm,
with depth 60% of width).

Imagine what it would do to tire inventories if wheel diameters changed to
hard SI.

History definitely limits us (relative to the ideal) in many cases.
