"Eurocheques" have been in existence for some time, but they have been
phased out. These were cheques issued by local banks which allowed
users to write a cheque in the local currency (when abroad, or for
mail order, which is why I got them). Cheques denominated in euros
(not 'Euros') are a separate matter. Credit cards have always been
usable, regardless of currency, but obviously there is a price to pay
(though it remains the cheapest way of buying from abroad). However,
credit cards are little used in Germany, from where I was trying to
buy some PC equipment some time ago.
