John and all,

Prices are increasingly dual in national currency and euro, but the euro is
not yet availabe. I still do not see changes in gasoline stations. After
2002-01-01, when the euro becomes availabe, there ill be a period of a
month in which old currency and coins can be used side by side.

I have noticed abuse; the coming of the euro is used to increase prices.
>From July 1 prices may not be increased, so they are doing it now.
Especially buying things in railway stations was always expensive, but
suddenly it has become even much worse. 0.5 L bottles of Coca Cola bought at
railway stations are ridiculous. These cost about 1.50 euro! To
hell with them. I boycott these crooks. I buy drinks etc. for the voyage in
a common shop and then I go to the station. Coca Cola bought in such shops
is
at least 50% cheaper.

Han

Europe wide. You should then obtain a credit card where you will be billed
in Euros.

This may change. As the use of the single currency evolves, quirks like
this one will dealt will have to be resolved. Postage stamps is another
issue that will have to be looked into too. As people encounter these road
blocks, there will be grumblings that will force a change.

 To Han and Louis:

Are there any changes taking place now in preparation for the Euro on
2002-01-01? Such as gasoline pumps registering prices in Euros, postage
stamps in Euros, vending machines, cash registers, etc.? The national
currencies must be converted to Euros by the end of February. If the change
of these items doesn't start before 2002-01-01 there is a chance due to the
amount of time it takes to change machines, that they will not be able to
function in Euros after the cut-off date.
