Just recently the EU blocked the merger of GE and Honeywell, two American companies, on the basis of their large presence in Europe and the fact that they felt it would give the new company unfair advantage in the aerospace industry. It goes to show that the EU is beginning to hold its own, as it were. Maybe they will actually say "no extension" next time on the labelling issue.
