A lot of gas stations went metric back in the early 70's for a short time. The
reason was that the old pumps weren't set up to show per gallon prices of over
99.9 cents. Going to liter pricing was a stop gap measure until new pumps
arrived.

Ah liquor... reminds me of my teenage years when I went to Europe with a
Eurail pass and a backpack and toured Europe. Stopped by the Hofbrau House in
Munich and threw back a few brews figuring I'd play follow the liter... 1
liter, 2 liters, 3 liters....floor!! Ah, those were the daze... (took the U
Bahn back to the hostel, no worries about DUI)

Few people realize how much of our daily lives involve some use of the metric
system.

Random "Bushism" -

"Well, it's an unimaginable honor to be the
president during the Fourth of July of this
country. It means what these words say, for
starters. The great inalienable rights of our
country. We're blessed with such values in
America. And I--it's--I'm a proud man to be the
nation based upon such wonderful values."
