Actually, the new car brochures [and other sources] rate fuel consumption in
L/100 km.
The "miles per gallon" gig is mostly bad habit.  Partly though, it can be
attributed to 'snow birds' who winter in the U.S. south  [there's an irony
here - we don't have miles in Canada anymore  AND  the gallon is U.S.!]
