Apparently there is nothing in common between SI and CO2.

Except the fact that yesterday 178 states agreed on the
implementation of the Kyoto Protocol on reduction of CO2 emissions,
but the USA did not join them.

Very similar to the SI situation : practically all countries in the
world have adopted SI, but the USA.

What does that mean ? Arrogance, or simple stupidity ?

There may be some hope : I just heard that more and more American
citizens - possibly driven by the increase in energy costs - begin to
think that the USA should do something for energy conservation, and
eventually ratify the Kyoto Protocol. Who knows, by the same token
they could adopt SI ?

I beg indulgency to my American friends : I did not want to offend
them. Just to support them in their efforts (to promote both SI and
the Kyoto Protocol).
