I have sent a separate email off to Herr Peck on this matter, assuring
him that educated Americans can and do use SI symbology correctly.
Further, I left it pretty clear the our journalists are not to be
considered knowledgeable about these things and that we are working to
educate them.

I won't bother posting that rather long email on this list; there's
nothing in it that this group hasn't seen before.
