Sir, Madam,

On 2001-06-14 I sent the message below; however, you did not bother to
answer. That is an answer in itself. To me it proves that your company wants
continental Europe and other parts of the world to abandon the metric
system. I am absolutely opposed to the Avoirdupois pounds and ounces your
company is attempting to impose on the world.

I will not buy any of your products from now on until your company abandons
its anti-metric policy and its incomprehensible desire for global conversion
to Anglo-Saxon units,

Yours,

H. Maenen
The Netherlands, a country that uses METRIC!

Sir, Madam,

I am from the Netherlands, a country that uses the metric system, not
British avoirdupois weights. That is also true for Denmark and for the large
majority of the world population. In Europe, only the British and the Irish
are not yet entirely metric. Even there, nearly all prepacked products are
hard metric now. And it is strange that a company that is based in a metric
country should export products in hard ounce and pound sizes to them and to
metric nations where people do not understand British units. Outside Europe,
only the USA uses ounces and pounds. THREE countries in the world use them!

 Conversions to 227 g, 454 g and 681 g don't help at all. I wonder whether
Ripensa would prefer to label its products in ounces and pounds only, but
the law in the EU and in metric countries in general makes that impossible.
Even more, in metric countries people do not use such bizarre quantities in
day-to-day life. They are used to hundreds of grams and 250, 500, 750 g and
1 kilogram etc. quantities.

It is absolutely beyond me why Ripensa prefers British to metric units and
why it seeks to impose ounces and pounds on the world population, of which
96% does not use them. Millions and millions of people, and I am one of
them, despise British weights and measures. People are boycotting your
products because of that. Ripensea may think that the EU and all other
nations should abandon the metric system. I am sure that this will never
happen. In the contrary: the EU wants to get rid of British units.

In short: please, explain the reasons for your position on this issue.

 Yours sincerely,

 Han Maenen
The Netherlands
