Henry Opperman, Office of Weights and Measures
Gerry Iannelli, NIST Metric Program Office

Dear Gentlemen:

With the kind and generous support of NIST, an exhibit was presented at
the 2001 Business Expo held in Charleston, SC last week by Metric
Methods. The NIST display provided the opportunity to present the metric
system and our government's Metric Program to people in a wide variety
of fields during the 16 h that the event was open over those two days
(2001 August 22/23).

After the post-event reports from the Chamber of Commerce are in, as
well as the photos taken there, a report will be submitted to USMA's
Metric Today for possible publication.

This joint effort brought the metric program to a venue that it would
otherwise have not appeared. Operating cooperatively in this manner
saved NIST the costs of time and travel since the setting up, manning,
and dismantling were provided gratis by Metric Methods. In return,
NIST's funding of the exhibit fees and provision of a display and
handouts made it possible for Metric Methods to appear there. Thus, both
NIST's MPO and Metric Methods were brought to the attention of the
public in Charleston's business and education communities.

The support of NIST's Metric Program Office for this event are greatly
appreciated and we hope to be able to do this again next year.
