More specific barley "yields" (in kg/m^2) are of greater interest to
farmers who uses GPS date to manage fertilizer application and soil
conservation.  Also, kg/m^2 is much easier to visualize than t/ha.

Averages (of kg/m^2) over an entire farm, or an entire state, or
country could still satisfy the needs of agriculture economists.
