Joseph B. Reid informs me that there is no mandatory weights and measures legislation in the US!! Would it not be reasonable to assume that, if this is indeed the case, that the US weights and measures system is wide open to abuse? Also, if traders are not obliged by law to follow any weights and measures legislation, would it not be difficult for consumers to effectively prove they have been ripped off by a trader??
