Subject: U.S. Welding Industry Standards Threatened!

Dear Committee Member, American Welding Society:

U.S. Welding Industry Standards Threatened!

The use of American Welding Standards internationally is being threatened
by recent developments in global standardization. The European Union is
aggressively and successfully promoting its technology and practices to
other nations around the world through its dominant representation in the
International Organization for Standardization (ISO). In mature industries
like welding, these standards often do not reflect U.S. needs or practices
and may soon make U.S. industry non-competitive in the global marketplace.
... etc.
..........................................................................
I (Gene Mechtly) shall forward the complete text by individual request,
or to all, if there are many requests. It is several pages in length.

It must be noted that the AWS is making a diligent effort to metricate,
at least the members of AWS Committee A1 on Metric Practice are doing so.

This might be an indication of growing global *demands* for metric
standards in other industries as well, and declining ability of US
industries to dictate standards in global marketplaces.

Gene.
