A construction engineer friend pointed to me that the eircraft selected by the highjackers took off on long distance flights and were steered into their targets at the beginning of their flights, and hence carried tons of fuel. It was that fuel that fed the fires that weakened the structural steel of the World Trade Centers. Further, the towers were hit low enough so the weight of the towers above the hits was enough to cause the crashes that brought the towers down.
