Dear Dr. Mechtly, Thank you for pointing out the inappropriateness of the photo that ASTM Standardization News ran next to the note on the new NIST traceability website. I did not see the photo prior, and did not know they were planning on running a photo with the note. NIST supports the International System of units in its scientific work, standards development and official communications. Unfortunately, we cannot control accidental or unconcsious use of customary measuring devices in other publications. We certainly hope that the NIST traceability website will increase the number of informed consumers of measurement services in the United States.
