We're planning a Halloween party here, and I'm in charge of the liquor. IN COLLOQUIAL UNITS:
1-1/2 oz per drink
8 oz x 4 cups/quart x 4 quarts/gallon = 128 oz per gallon
1/5 of a gallon ("a fifth")
128 * 1/5 / 1-1/2 = 17 drinks per fifth
OR IN METRIC UNITS:
50 mL per drink
1000 mL per bottle
1000 / 50 = 20 drinks per liter
(or, with a 750 mL bottle, 750/50 = 15 drinks per bottle)
I know, I'm preaching to the choir, but you guys will understand.
