One distinguishes scalars from vectors by the number of quantities
specified. A vector has magnitude and direction. A speed might be stated
as equaling 50 km/h and so might the magnitude of a velocity. But the
velocity will have an additional quantity, such as 090�, to indicate
direction. Torque magnitudes are given in newton meters but that says
nothing about the direction of the vector.
