If I meet English speaking people in metric countries who want information
in FFU, I never, ever give in to that! I use metric only! If they want ifp,
they should stay out of metric countries. Period.
And you could tell her that she is supposed to understand the metric system
as she learned it at school; further that she has no right to expect people
in metric countries to understand Imperial stuff.
Or, as John suggested, say that you have 2 feet and 2 thumbs or 'inches'.
'Deux pieds, 2 pouces', if she knows French. 'Thumb = duim' is the Dutch
name for inch. And 'pouce' means thumb as well as inch.
