I've used many Suzy B. and Sacagawea dollars (all obtained in change at USPS
stamp machines) to pay for things. With the Suzy B's, I point out that
they're not quarters. With the Saccies, I regard that as redundant.

There's never been a problem. Presumably, those who work at cash registers
get some instruction on how to recognize counterfeit bills, so it makes
sense that they would also be told, at the same time, about the coins they
can expect to be tendered.

It's also possible that the USPS sends informative pamphlets to all retail
outlets.

Subject: [USMA:17243] Golden Dollar Experiment

Today, I obtained several US Golden Dollar coins from a post office
vending machine. Today and tomorrow I will try using them and see
what type of reactions I get.

My first test was at an Eckerd drugstore in Indialantic, FL, where I
used it to pay for a pack of gum. The cashier, a man in his 20s,
took it, knew it's value and had no problem or comments. I'll report
back on more attempts later.

Unfortuntately, I'll be flying back to Canada on Sunday and I won't have
much time to attempt many more experiments.

Stephen
