There are many websites explaining the advantages of different number system like base-8 (octal using digits from 0-7) base-12 (duodecimal using digits from 0-9,A,B,10) base-16 (hexadecimal using digits from 0-9,A-F).
The proponents claim that the entire World should switch over to their system. The only common thing among these 3 number systems are 1. They all have division by 2 (half, quarter, etc) whereas in base-10 (only upto half is available). 2. Base-12 and base-16 systems allow lesser digits for representation. for ex - we should only 1 digit A for 10 and B for 11. If they really want lesser digits, then I will propose base-100 system which has 1 character to represent numbers from 0-99. You may wonder that Latin has only 26 letters, but we can borrow other characters from other languages like Chinese, Hindi, Arabic, Cyrillic, etc. The only problem is that a person has to learn 100 characters instead of the present 10. Perhaps computers can use it internally. Base-100 will still confirm with base-10. Madan __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send FREE video emails in Yahoo!
