A dual period for the change to the euro was allowed from Jan.1 to Jan 28. Last Saturday the guilder had its last revival. People bought things using the guilder. As from today the guilder is no longer legal tender, it will no longer be accepted in the shops, sounding the death knell of this currency. Other countries in the eurozone will have a dual period till February 28.
